Which project was your most successful?
I believe my most successful project was my printmaking project. I had a lot of fun with it (amidst all the frustration) and I feel like I connected with my subject the most. As I mentioned in my blog about the project, I have a personal relationship with Seattle so I was really inspired while creating this project. I love the city and the architecture there so I really connected with it. I immediately knew I was going to choose the Spaceneedle when our teacher told us we could use an architectural structure for inspiration.
I chose to have my paper facing portrait so that the space needle could be in the center. I was debating between doing it that way or landscape to have the full Seattle skyline, but I'm happy with the choice I made. For the background, I really wanted to incorporate colors because the Spaceneedle itself is just black and white. I think the color palette I chose of blue, pink, and purple really works with the stark contrast of the tower. I am really excited with the way this project looks and I cannot wait to further work with printmaking in the future.

Mini Lessons
Before we completed our Georgia O'Keeffe inspired projects, we did drawings in oil pastel, chalk, colored pencil, and watercolor. I really enjoyed doing these mini projects. Although I ended up doing my final drawing in colored pencil, my favorite mini lessons were the ones in oil pastel and chalk pastel. I really enjoyed oil pastel because I hadn't really worked with it many times before and I really liked the blendability (not so much the mess though!) I think drawing soda cans in oil pastel was a really unique tool for helping us visualize the highlights and shadows on the cans, a technique we needed to utilize when doing our final drawing. I felt the same way about the chalk pastel, it was a media I'd never worked with before but after Mrs. Rossi gave us some demonstrations, I got to practice drawing apples with them and really loved the final effect. The vibrant colors and easy blending really made it easy and fun to draw the apples. I'm definitely curious to see what else I could draw with oil and chalk pastels in the future and I really think they helped when doing other projects.
